Healthcare Reform Alternatives - Letter to Congressman Jim Matheson, (D) Utah

A letter to U.S. Representative, Congressman Jim Matheson (D) UT from his constituent, James Poll (SFC, U.S. Army Retired) and Businessman:

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people's money."

—Margaret Thatcher

To the Honorable Representative Matheson, (D) Utah,

Because I agree wholeheartedly with Margaret Thatcher's statement above, I share the following suggestions from a Wall Street Journal article and I have inserted a couple thoughts. I have said repeatedly to many that I am strongly opposed to state run healthcare as the President has proposed! You have seemed to agree. First of all it is [no] secret, the govt has no credibility with the overwhelminhg majority of citizens and rightfully so. Secondly, people think I am just one of many angry and "dumb" (according to NBC) Americans that is just opposed to Obama because I am an alleged racist or some other unstated reason. You see, I wan't Americans to have health insurance if they want and need it. So here is some ideas that I like taken from a recent WSJ article:

•Remove the legal obstacles that slow the creation of high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs).

•Equalize the tax laws so that employer-provided health insurance and individually owned health insurance have the same tax benefits.

•Repeal all state laws which prevent insurance companies from competing across state lines.
(I'm not sure this is constitutional to enforce by the fed govt but the govt could build a coalitions to promote mutual cooperation among state lawmakers)

•Repeal government mandates regarding what insurance companies must cover.

•Enact tort reform to end the ruinous lawsuits that force doctors to pay insurance costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
(AMEN!!!!)

•Make costs transparent so that consumers understand what health-care treatments cost.

•Enact Medicare reform.
(Among other things, I propose we contract Medicare out to private companies with a different private company administering it in each region, much like we do for the military who receive health care outside of military installations).

•Finally, revise tax forms to make it easier for individuals to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to help the millions of people who have no insurance and aren't covered by Medicare, Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

Here is the link to the entire article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204251404574342170072865070.html

And here is an interesting report on the dishonesty of General Electric's NBC News division as it pertatins to this issue of healthcare. Resorting of calling people "dumb" or in opposition on the grounds "because President Obama is black" is apalling but should we be surprised. I am for REAL CHANGE!, GOOD CHANGE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPHQjJARAOQ

Sincerely, Your Constituent,

  1. I realized after I had sent this letter to the Honorable Mr. Matheson that I left out one suggestion which is not included in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article. It is:

With regard to the WSJ suggestion for "Tort Reform" specifically enact a law that requires the loser of a law suit to bear some or all of the cost of the legal fees incurred by the winning party in the suit.
